Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or Gracie Jiu Jitsu, became popularized in the mid-1990’s after Royce Gracie used the techniques of Jiu Jitsu to defeat his opponents and become the first UFC champion. What makes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu unique is that it focuses on leverage and proper technique as opposed to strength. In a self defense situation, this will help neutralize the advantage a larger, stronger attacker and enables a smaller person to successfully defend himself or herself against a bigger person.

Moreover, Jiu Jitsu is a system of self-defense that teaches students how to throw and fall properly, as well as how to perform and defend against joint locks, chokes, and other submission techniques.

With this training, not only do you get a great workout, but you also attain many mental benefits as well. More specifically, martial arts is a great way to increase your physical energy and mental clarity while simultaneously developing a calm inner confidence. Some other mental benefits include higher self-esteem, increase in confidence, and greater focus and concentration. Some of the physical benefits include increased energy and stamina, better endurance and cardiovascular conditioning, greater flexibility, improved strength and muscle tone, weight loss, and stress relief.

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is affiliated with Jeff Curran, a 2nd degree Black Belt, who has fought in the UFC, Pride and the WEC, and with Jeff Curran’s instructor, Master Pedro Sauer, an 8th degree Red & Black belt under Helio Gracie & Rickson Gracie.
